Our mission is changing food policy and business practice to ensure everyone, across our nations, can afford and access a healthy diet.

Why we exist

Nourishing the Nation: A shared vision of a brighter future

The Food Foundation was established to understand why the UK food system is failing to deliver the best outcomes for citizens and our planet and to drive change in food policy and business practice to ensure everyone can afford and access healthy and sustainable food.

We know one of the symptoms of a broken food system is that people are unable to access a healthy diet. Diet-related ill health is a major public health issue, impacting people with less resources at a much higher rate.

The food system currently bakes in these inequalities, leading to poorer health outcomes and lower life expectancies for people on lower incomes.

This is not about advocating for individual change, this is about implementing structural and long-term solutions for a fairer, healthier and more sustainable society.
